About The PRP Center
The PRP Center is Raleigh's first and only medical practice devoted solely to performing high-quality platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatments for hair loss and skin rejuvenation. Hair PRP treatment has rapidly gained in popularity over the last 10 years, and is now widely accepted as a natural, safe and effective treatment for men's hair loss and women's hair loss, as well as skin and scar restoration. Our founder, Dr. Matthew Kanaan, was trained on PRP during his residency at Duke University and after performing thousands of PRP injections, has used his experience to train our board certified physician assistants on his methods. Our mission is to make this revolutionary treatment mainstream by offering it as affordably as possible to patients in the Triangle area (Raleigh, Cary, Durham, Chapel Hill, Wake Forest, etc.). Watch our video to learn more about what to expect during your first visit for hair PRP.
HOW DOES PRP HELP WITH HAIR LOSS?
PRP hair treatment has shown to be an effective approach for treating androgenetic alopecia, commonly known as Male Pattern Hair Loss (MPHL) and Female Pattern Hair Loss (FPHL). Hair loss patients have experienced positive outcomes through Hair PRP treatment. These chronic hair loss conditions, affecting both men and women, involve progressive hair loss, with androgenic alopecia impacting as many as 80% of men and 40% of women.
PRP is a preparation of platelets in concentrated plasma using your blood (similar to a blood draw at a doctor's office). Clinics began using PRP in dermatology after researchers found that high concentrations of platelets in plasma cells can promote hair growth by prolonging the growing phase of the hair cycle. In the PRP hair treatment procedure, your blood is harvested and spun in a centrifuge machine to separate the platelets and plasma. Using a tiny needle, the hair loss area is injected with the PRP and plasma. It usually takes a minimum of 3 months to see a visible improvement in your hair loss with PRP. Over time, most male and female patients can expect a 20% to 40% increase in hair thickness. A new study found a notable decrease in hair loss from the first to the fourth sessions. The average hair count rose from 71 to 93 hair follicular units, leading to an average gain of 22.09 follicular units per cm2.
